Intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring in spinal cord cavernous angioma surgery: a case report

نویسندگان

چکیده

Spinal cord cavernous angioma (SCAA) is a rare tumorous condition that can manifest various neurologic symptoms, and most lesions are needed to be removed surgically. However, since the SCAA positioned intramedullary, tumor resection could have modest risk for development of neuronal injury. Intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring (IONM) has been widely accepted as an effective tool detecting damage predicting postoperative deterioration in intramedullary spinal surgery. Here, we briefly report representative case surgery with IONM, which showed different patterns electrophysiologic change each lower limb, followed by relevant states. Based on this case, confirm clinical significance application IONM again.

Intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring during spinal surgery.

Intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring (IONM) is a battery of neurophysiologic tests used to assess the functional integrity of the spinal cord, nerve roots, and other peripheral nervous system structures (eg, brachial plexus) during spinal surgery. The underlying principle of IONM is to identify emerging insult to nervous system structures, pathways, and/or related vascular supply and to p...

Anesthesia for intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring of the spinal cord.

Intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring (INM) using somatosensory and motor evoked potentials (MEPs) has become popular to reduce neural risk and to improve intraoperative surgical decision making. Intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring is affected by the choice and management of the anesthetic agents chosen. Because inhalational and intravenous anesthetic agents have effects on neural s...

Thoracic spinal cord cavernous angioma: a case report and review of the literature

INTRODUCTION Cavernous angiomas of the spinal cord are rare vascular malformations, which account for approximately 5 to 12 percent of spinal cord vascular lesions. They usually originate in the vertebrae, with occasional extension into the extradural space, and intramedullary cavernomas, even if reported in the literature, are very rare. CASE PRESENTATION We report the case of a 34-year-old ...

Fetal cavernous angioma--case report.

A neonate male who developed cavernous angioma was born with a severe intraventricular hemorrhage and intraparenchymal hemorrhage in the basal ganglia. magnetic resonance imaging revealed a large, non-enhanced hematoma that packed the lateral ventricle. Surgery on the 2nd day of life verified a cavernous angioma associated with minimal hemosiderin and gliosis. Fetal cavernous angiomas, unlike s...

Multimodal Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring in Spinal Cord Surgery.

AIM Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) monitors the functional integrity of critical neural structures by electrophysiological methods during surgery. Multimodality combines different neurophysiological methods to maximize diagnostic efficacy and provide a safety margin to improve the outcomes of spinal surgery. Our aim was to share our intraoperative monitoring experiences wit...
